Palolem Beach

Palolem has the most picturesque beach in South Goa. The beach is surrounded by a generous forest of coconut palm trees giving it a carpet of green cover all over.  Clear blue waters, golden sands and tropical greenery all around. Almost 2 kms long, Palolem is a crescent shaped beach which has a natural cove with cool blue waters to swim in.

Palolem beach offers both relaxation and adventure. Those who've had enough of lounging on the beach can go dolphin spotting or fishing in a boat, or take an inexpensive boat trip along the backwaters during high tide. Hiring a kayak is also a good way to explore the surroundings. During low tide, it's possible to walk to Butterfly Beach (which becomes an island when the tide is in) where there are hiking trails and striking sunsets to be enjoyed. For those who like to shop, Palolem also has a market just behind the beach that sells jewellery, clothes, and souvenirs.

Palolem beach has lot of beach shacks, bar and restaurants serving both local and continental food as well as Italian cusine.

Palolem Beach featured in Hollywood English Movie

Palolem beach is shown as the Indian residence of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) in the film The Bourne Supremacy (2004). The initial footage in the movie gives a good idea of the natural beauty of the beach - the distinctive tree covered rocks at one end known locally as Conco Island or Monkey Island - to which boat rides are organized. This stretch of Palolem beach is just a few minutes walking distance from the beach rooms of Palolem Delights Guest house.

About the Palolem Hollywood Scene

Since the end of The Bourne Identity, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) and Marie (Franka Potente) have dropped off the grid, and are lying low in Goa. This long-time hippie beach paradise on the west coast of India still carries signs of its many years under Portuguese rule. Bourne’s hideaway is on the isolated white sand Palolem Beach, about 3km from Canacona railway junction in southern Goa.

The market town, though, is not as close as it appears. It’s the Goan capital, Panaji (previously Panjim), way to the north of Goa, where hired killer Kirill (Karl Urban) tries to trace Bourne at the ‘telegraph office’: the Comunidade Building on Church Square. He chases Bourne’s Suzuki Gypsy through the old Fontainhas Heritage Precinct and Candolim, before it plunges off the Nerul Bridge into the River Nerul. (Source of Information:

The Palolem Delights, Palolem beach is largely unspoiled and is inhabited by both local fishermen and by foreign tourists who live in shacks along the shore. One can view the whole beach from either end. Both ends of the beach consist of rocks jutting out into the sea. The depth of the sea increases gradually, it being shallowest at the northern ends of the beach, making it safe for average swimmers, and the currents are not fast.

Everyone, from long term travellers to package tourists, seems to have found an appropriate place for themselves on Palolem Beach. As a result, you'll find completely different atmospheres at the north and south ends of the beach. The quieter and laid back north tends to attract families, while backpackers congregate in the south where the party scene is.

Palolem is one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Goa. It is surrounded by hills on both sides, resulting in a calm, idyllic sea in which you can walk into up to 100 metres. Palolem is quite small, so easy to explore on foot.

The world famous, “Money Stone” in Palolem.

At the top of the island touching Palolem beach there is a stone sculpture shaped by an American Conceptual and Land art artist JacekTylicki called "Give if you can - Take if you have to" also called "the Money stone". It has become a pilgrimage destination for lovers of Palolem beach. People can leave or take money at will at the Money stone.
